Making a few changes to your lifestyle habits and you can enjoy a healthier you. Make the lifestyle modifications according to Ayurvedic principles and you can enjoy a smarter, active and fulfilling life - without starving.

Obesity in itself is not a disease. However, obese persons are prone to variety of diseases and physical conditions like hypertension, heart problems, arthritis, etc. Obese persons are also likely to become the target of teasing, which can lead to social anxiety.

According to Charaka, obesity is one among the eight undesirable physical qualities (nindya prakruti). The Ayurvedic term for obesity is Medaroga - a condition caused due to excess meda (fat).

It is a condition of excess nourishment to the meda dhathu (fat tissue), while depriving nourishment to other dhathus (body tissues). Reducing food intake is not an essential requirement, but balancing your food intake is.

Obesity or accumulation of excess fat can be either due to overeating or due to underlying physical conditions. It is always easier to keep your trim body that way than trying to trim down your obese body.

Ayurveda has a few suggestions for controlling and managing obesity.

Regularise your eating habits. Eat lots of wholegrain, fresh vegetables and fruits, while avoiding oily & fatty items. Eat only when you are hungry. Also don't eat (snacks) between meals.

Have an active lifestyle. Spending too much time indoors can lead to obesity. Get out into the farmland, sports ground, swimming pool or outdoors. Be physically active - it is good for your body and your mind.

Practice Yoga. Yoga is not an exercise program, but a recommended Ayurvedic lifestyle habit. Yoga can make overall changes to your life, strengthening your body, mind and helping you stay focused in anything you need. Your efforts to get away from obesity can also be your goal.

Have a regular sleeping pattern. Don't sleep in daytime and don't stay awake late into the night. Both can lead to obesity. Go to sleep before 10.30pm and wake up before 5.30 am. Our forefathers have given the proverb (early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise) not without a reason.

If you are a non-vegetarian, minimise the intake of meat. When taking meat, also take very little amount of red wine immediately after or a few hours after the meals. This helps in proper digestion. However, don't take any alcoholic beverage in empty stomach. Also don't take more than two drinks a day.

Dishes prepared from wholegrain wheat and rice form good menu. However, make sure there is little oil and ghee used in the cooking. Poori is bad, while chapatti is good.

How to Sustain the Lifestyle Changes You Need For a Healthy Heart

I was a psychologist for 20 years when I began to experience serious chest pain. Before I could say," Wait! I'm too young!" I had my chest cracked open and quadruple bypass surgery.

This shouldn't have been a shock, because I was warned for years that my lifestyle was killing me. My doctor urged me to exercise more, lose weight, and smell the roses. I followed this advice for awhile, but soon I was back to my same old ways.
After surgery, I wrote a book, A Change of Heart, and opened the Center for Cardiac Wellness. My second book, Cardiac Wellness: How to Sustain the Lifestyle Changes you need for a Healthy Heart, is based on my experience counseling hundreds of heart patients over the past 11 years.

A Lifestyle disease

We now understand that heart disease is essentially a disease of lifestyle. No less an expert than Dr. Dean Ornish says "many people can begin to reverse their heart disease simply by changing their lifestyle."
Yet understanding alone clearly isn't enough to motivate people to sustain heart healthy lifestyle changes. Consider this alarming statistic quoted by Dr. Edward Miller, Dean of the Medical School at John Hopkins University
"If you look at people after coronary artery by-pass grafting two years later,90% of them have not changed their lifestyle."
Why do reasonably intelligent people like me, fail to sustain lifestyle changes they need to keep them alive? The vast majority of my patients were simply too exhausted and depleted to sustain beneficial lifestyle choices.

Energy and Self Control

It takes energy (glucose) to fuel all your activities. Self control is one such activity. Without energy you cannot exercise self control or willpower. It's impossible to sustain a healthy lifestyle without self control.
But self control is a limited energy source. You can use it up in one area and not have it for the next area. Willpower is like a muscle. When used too intensely, it gets worn out and can fail.

How to Break Free From the "Booked Solid" Lifestyle and Unlock Your Business Growth

Last night I saw something that gave me a slight jolt. Actually, it felt more like someone hit me over the head. A woman posted on a forum how ecstatic she was about being "booked solid!"

If you're a traditional business owner, these words are probably like music to your ear. You may be associating these words with getting paid, making more money that week, or being productive, busy, and successful.

I associate these words with completely different emotions: tired, stuck in my office, chained to my desk, deadlines, no time for kids, movies, music, family, or taking a walk in the middle of the day.

There's nothing wrong with being booked solid if you're doing it because you choose to. But I dare you to show me a single entrepreneur who's "booked solid" by choice! More likely out of financial necessity. Or, because it makes him or her feel safe, secure, and successful.

What does a clear calendar mean to you? Many people say, "It usually means that I am not making any money."

To me it means I'll have time to develop new income streams.

I feel successful when my calendar is clear. Sounds strange? That is because I rely on my automated income streams instead of "active" or client income. I work with clients because I choose to, not because I have to. I love having plenty of free time on my schedule, because it turns me into an unstoppable "creative machine!"

The last thing you want is to be booked solid! It's a misguided notion and it drivesme crazy when entrepreneurs focus their entire lives on getting there. When you're booked solid, what's next?

Being booked solid can completely consume your life. If any of these are true for you, then you've already experienced the negative "side effects" of being booked solid:

- You never say no to a new client, no matter how much you might regret it later
- You change your vacation plans when there's a possibility of making money
- You feel guilty when you're not working, because you're not making money at that time
- You cancel your family time to accommodate a client (they're paying you for every hour)
- You can't stop working at the end of the day
- You keep checking your e-mail and phone message on your vacation to make sure you don't miss a money-making opportunity
- You feel tired and stressed out at least 75% of the time.

Does this sound like you? Then I strongly suggest it's time for you to change your business model. Give yourself the peace of mind you need to relax and be much more strategic about your opportunities. It will also allow you to move from "I am busy therefore I am successful" to "I am making money even when I am not busy, therefore I am free."

Remember: if you don't deliberately change the way you operate, your business will suck you in further and deeper, until the only way out will be to get out.

If booking yourself solid is not the way to build a business full of personal freedom, then what is? Stop trading hours for dollars, and start trading value for dollars.

Think about it. If you spend an hour with a client, that hour is gone and you can't do anything to get it back...So what if you got paid $500 for it?

That's the only reward you'll ever see for that hour. Your ROTI - Return On Your Time Investment - becomes limited to the $500 you got paid.

On the other hand, if you spend that hour writing an article, there are unlimited possibilities for how you can be rewarded for your time. You can:

- Submit it to hundreds of publishers of targeted publications
- Include it in your book
- Create a seminar around it
- Expand it into a workbook
- Include it in your own newsletter
- Create a video based on it......

and so much more, which over the next 3-12 months may turn into thousands of dollars or more!

Hourly mentality kills your personal freedom and creates a job you own.

There is no denying the fact that when you retire your lifestyle too changes. This does not in anyway mean that you will no longer lead a happy and contended life. Retirement can be beautiful if you plan it well. Unlike in years gone by, planning for life after retirement requires much more thought and more money simply because our expectations are much higher today. Health:

Today the computer and the internet provide you with a wonderful opportunity to keep yourself occupied for several hours in your new lifestyle. This is indeed a blessing for many retirees who are knowledgeable about the use of the computer. News from around the world, music, videos, complete novels are all right there at your finger tips. You could also be in touch with your kith and kin by e-mail. Those not conversant with the use of the computer can easily gain proficiency by attending special classes conducted for senior citizens.

The computer and the internet also provide you with a great opportunity to earn an additional income while keeping yourself mentally active. Thus life after retirement can be financially remunerative too.

You can enroll yourself with online paid survey companies and participate in online surveys for which you will be remunerated.

Participating in online auctions by enrolling yourself with e-Bay or other auction sites is another popular way of earning an additional income. An easy way of getting started is to sell your own items that you have discarded and stored away in the basement or attic.
