Guidelines For A Healthy Lifestyle

For years medical professionals have been claiming that what a person eats directly affects how long they will live. Those who incorporate natural foods that are low in fat into their diet are leading a much healthier lifestyle than someone who frequents a fast food restaurant.

People who live a healthy lifestyle sometimes need to give up convenience for the sake of eating healthier. This seems to be changing in recent years. Many fast food restaurants are recognizing this trend towards a healthy lifestyle and are now adding alternative food choices to their menus.

One of the drawbacks of many of the fast food chains is that the items are very high in fat. For a person struggling with their weight or watching their heart health it can be a challenge to find menu items that they can eat.

In recognition of the healthier lifestyle their customers want companies are now offering items like salads, yogurt and low fat muffins. For a parent taking their child to a burger and fries joint this now means that they won't have to forego their healthy lifestyle while they eat there. They can enjoy a salad with low calorie dressing while their youngsters enjoy what they like.

Diet is only one ingredient in living a healthy lifestyle. Another important component is exercise. Exercise plays an integral part in reaching and maintaining a healthy body weight.

Adding an exercise regime to your life is a great step towards a healthier lifestyle. Using this time to burn calories and build your muscles will ensure that your body is getting the movement it needs.

In today's busy world many people don't feel that they can live a healthy lifestyle. They complain that it takes too much time and energy. Another common complaint is that pursuing a healthy lifestyle is expensive. Adding fresh fruits, vegetables and fish to their lifestyle diet plan adds a cost that many people don't see the value in.

You don't have to join a gym to get exercise. If you tend to drive to the store and it's close enough to walk to, than choose the walk. This is an example of changing your lifestyle in a small way that actually will lead to big results.

Everyone can make some change in their lifestyle that will lead to healthier choices. Instead of picking up a bag of potato chips, eat an apple. When you are craving a candy bar, put on your walking shoes and take a stroll.

Perhaps the biggest benefit of living a healthy lifestyle is that you are teaching your children how to do the same. Children who are raised in an environment that encourages a healthy lifestyle will carry that through their adult lives.

Getting to Grips with a Healthy Lifestyle

In a perfect world we would all be eating the right food, exercising, sleeping well and just generally enjoying life.

In the real world most of us manage a percentage of the healthy lifestyle and muddle through as best we can with the rest of it. Part of the problem is we are encouraged to think, mostly by the media, that we should be doing everything possible towards a healthy lifestyle, all of the time. For most of us this is just not possible.

Constant concern about what we should or shouldn't be doing causes our stress levels to go up and that negates any good work that we've done. Yes, we should certainly try for a healthy lifestyle, but the two key words are "moderation" and "balance" By applying these criteria to achieving a healthy lifestyle we won't be beating ourselves up for failing another diet or dropping out of the latest exercise regime.

A common mistake that many people make when they decide to adopt a healthy lifestyle is to try to do too much too soon. They then give themselves a guilt complex when it all falls apart. It is also easy to be influenced by others, when we should only be adopting a healthy lifestyle plan to suit ourselves.

Ah! Did I say lifestyle plan? Do you have one, or do you just try the next thing that is in your magazine or Sunday supplement? By all means read these articles and take them into account as you plan how you want your healthy lifestyle to take shape.

Leading a healthy lifestyle doesn't mean you have got to run a mile before breakfast, eat seeds and think pure thoughts. Great if that's what you want, but for most of us "healthy" means being in reasonable shape, eating our fruit and vegetables and generally having a feeling of vitality.

Decide on your definition of a healthy lifestyle, and then plan a strategy that works for you.

As part of my health plan I decided I wanted to walk in the mornings before breakfast, but there was no way I wanted to get up at the crack of dawn to do it. So I planned a ten minute circuit that includes a short flight of steps and a not too steep incline. I power walked that route every day and felt really good. Sure l wouldn't make the City to Surf marathon, but I compromised and made it work for me.

Today, much is made of organic foods, but the reality is that organic food is generally more expensive and well out of the range for most budgets. Yes organic is probably the best option, but it doesn't mean that if you're not eating all organic you are not eating right. If you're concerned about general produce, be a bit discerning when you shop. Look for fruit and vegetables that are fresh and unblemished. You should also buy product brands that you can trust. If you shop wisely, you can have a well-balanced healthy diet that won't break the bank.

Basically living a healthy life means looking at your lifestyle as a whole, it is not just about diet and exercise. It is not always necessary to make major changes. Most people know their weak spots, and are happy if they can make a few changes that show results.

A friend of mine was drinking several cans of soft drink a day. She was feeling tired and generally under the weather. When I read an article about the health risk of soft drink I copied it and gave it to her, whereupon she decided to give up the soft drink there and then. A week later she got back to me and said she couldn't believe the difference, her energy levels were up and she was feeling great. Just that one change was able to make a difference and she feels good about the healthy choice.

Sleep and leisure time play a big part in a healthy lifestyle, and for the most part people underestimate the value of good sleep. Our bodies aren't designed to operate at peak performance twenty four hours a day. Anyone in industry knows that machines that have to work continuously need a lot of maintenance. When we are sleeping our body is healing and regenerating itself and we should wake up feeling refreshed and revitalized.

We can go without sleep for extended periods, but we can't do it indefinitely. The amount of sleep an individual needs varies a great deal, and there is no such thing as the right time to sleep. Obviously most people sleep at night, but if you are one of those folk that comes alive in the small hours, you might need to catch up with your sleep during the day.

A big part of healthy living is being comfortable with yourself. Don't be pressured into trying to attain a certain look, or push yourself down a career path you are not suited to. Constant worry about what you are doing will only have the opposite effect on your health. Don't get paranoid about your diet, about what toothpaste you should use or about expensive exercise equipment you need to buy.

Allow a common sense approach to dictate when you are making lifestyle choices, and remember, there is nothing wrong with compromise if it means your healthy lifestyle plan will work for you.

Top Ten List to Have a Healthy Lifestyle

Fresh air, sunshine, healthy food and water are the essential things that we need in order to live a healthy lifestyle. So I have list top 10 things to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

1. FRESH AIR - Oxygen, feeds, nourishes us. Make our lives count for the future and our blue-green Planet's pure air. Walk gently, breathe in now, full, deep, strong, long. Breath in fully to get oxygen, nourish and cleanse. Exhale long and deep, let go of toxins, old emotions, and all being held onto. Let go. Let go... Fear slows the breath. Renew commitment to inhale deeply, exhale long. Hold. Do it again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again...

2. SUNSHINE - Plants take in sunlight and so do we. Get outdoors, take off glasses, don't overdo it. Call it Yummy - when it's Sunny - smile, play and dance in the light... Sunshine's full spectrum of natural daylight stimulates our pineal and pituitary glands to rev up the metabolism, makes it churn and burn. Did someone convince us sunshine is dangerous? Even shady, full spectrum natural daylight helps us be healthy and vibrant; go - no glasses, outdoors.

3. WATER - Drink in the cleanest, most alive water you can find. (Would you take a bath in fruit juice, soda or beer? Yukk!) Carry your own bottle! Fill. Drink. Repeat. Would you take a bath in diet soda? Hope not. Cells love water; like a flooding stream, it carries the silt out to the sea. Get your own bottle! We're 78% water. Wow. You'd think water needs to refresh itself at a cellular level pretty darn often. Get your own bottle. Cleanse, refresh.

4. MOVEMENT - Life is Movement / Movement is Life. Dance, sing, play, walk, run, skip, ride, hike, ski, sail... how many more can you think of??? Being sedentary is like inertia. Hard to get going again, but once you do, don't stop. Find a way to move: walk the dog, stretch, dance, play catch... It can be gentle and slow or it can be fast and quick. The body needs movement to circulate its life force, to get out the toxins, to assimilate.

5. PREDOMINANTLY VEGAN DIET - We do not have carnivore teeth. Our long intestinal loves fibrous plant food; be lean and nourished into good health with *vegan foods, grow younger. Our digestive system was made for high fiber fruits, vegetables and grains. Once we clean out the residue from old habits, our tastes change. To his great surprise, Dr. Max Gerson, while pursuing a cure for migraines in the 1950s, discovered that a mostly vegan diet cured cancer!

6. EAT AT LEAST 50% LIVING, RAW FOOD - Turn your yard into a garden -grow non-gmo seeds, buy organic, safely pick wild, sprout. Know where your food comes from - be a thriver, not just a survivor! First 7 days sprouted foods have more enzymes and life force than anything else. You'll be amazed at how good eating them makes you feel! Living foods are different than raw foods. For instance lettuce is a mature raw food. Sprouted seeds are living. Eat 'em both for Life!

7. ORGANIC WHOLE FOODS - Clear your grocery list of all but Whole foods. How much is left? "No whites" is a good start; whole means NO processing. Get really radical, go "cold turkey"! Whole means just like it grew or is growing. Organic means no pesticides and living soil. Hunger disappears when we eat food w/real nutrient value. Every time food gets processed it loses something: vitamins, minerals, life force. If you want to get really radical go organic/natural- feel the difference!

8. LIMIT ANIMAL PROTEIN TO 7% MAX - The landmark book, China Study shows ALL, ALL Degenerative Conditions are either Eliminated or Reversed with a maximum of 7% animal foods in the diet. For 35 yr. China Study found elimination and reversal of every degenerative condition (including obesity) with a veggie diet max 7% animal food. The China Study concluded all degenerative conditions could either be eliminated or reversed with a maximum of 7% animal protein in the diet.

9. MODERATION - EAT SMALL QUANTITIES - We live in an age of "too much". Learn to love being hungry and have less: 3 small meals/day, 5 hrs. between, 12 hrs. empty at night, body purrz... Let the body know we're not in starvation: eat 3 moderate meals/day with 5 hrs. between.; 12 hrs. empty stomach at night; green shake for Breakfast. Mastering Leptin tells us there's a chronic state of inflammation in the body when we overeat; eat small - rest between, to gradually shift this.

10. MORE GRATITUDE / LESS ATTITUDE - These things initiate healing at the deepest levels of our being, and radiate forth into the world as our "radio signal". Know our creative power. Emotions generate the energy surrounding and coming to us. Love yourself just as you are. Soon everything will melt away, but love. Get help to release old emotions conscious and otherwise. Trust yourself to find Love in all things, to be fully evolving towards Wholeness.

"The curse causeless shall not come." Proverbs 26:2

Everyday Healthy Tips to Sustain a Healthy Lifestyle

Gone are the days when you were lined up with your siblings to have a spoonful of Grandmas favourite tonic. Many people still cringe at the though of Lanes emulsion, cold liver oil, maltexo or Epsom salts - But they sure played a major role in preventative medicine. I believe these "Tonics" are desperately missing in our homes today, so here's a few of my favourites that can be used for all kinds of health ailments.

All homes should have Tea Tree or Manuka oil in their cupboard - a First aid kit in a bottle. Tea tree oil is drying on the skin (making it idea for pimples), where Manuka is oily. They both possess powerful anti bacterial, anti fungal & anti septic activity, with Manuka said to be 20 times stronger than Tea Tree. The uses of these are extensive and can be applied, diluted in a carrier oil (almond, apricot or even olive) to most skin ailments. Ideal for sores, scrapes, abrasions, ringworm, tinea, head lice, acne, gum problems & dandruff or try vaporising it in a burner for helping with colds, sinus & bronchial congestion.

Apple Cider Vinegar is a must for all - but especially those with poor digestion. If you feel sluggish or uncomfortable after eating, then try mixing 1 tablespoon full, of a good quality Apple Cider Vinegar, in approx. 100ml of water and drink this before eating. The difference can be dramatic & instantaneous.

UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) refers to the antibacterial property of some New Zealand Manuka Honey. These range between 5-18, with a UMF of 18 being ideal for use on external skin infections, such as ulcers. Tests have shown that UMF honey can help the body's normal immune response clear wounds of infection, when used as an ointment. No matter how large or small, just adjust the dressing size & amount of UMF honey used. I have seen it clear infection from the nastiest looking wounds & ulcers, to a cut that's "gone a bit red & puffy". But remember, if it doesn't state the honeys UMF value, it's probably because it doesn't have one. Great for those with stomach ulcers too.

If you wake up in the morning and don't feel refreshed from your sleep (even though you had a good nights sleep) your liver may be struggling to keep up with its role of "Chemical Laboratory". Our liver gets constantly bombarded with all kinds of toxins every day - including things like herbicides & sprays on foods, medication & preservatives, not forgetting the pollution we breath every day. Start the day with ½ a lemon squeezed in water & ensure you drink this as soon as you get up in the morning. This will help to get your liver into action for the day & it definitely helps to clear that foggy feeling. To further help your liver, try Dandelion coffee - a delicious drink that really does taste similar to coffee. Other symptoms that can relate to poor liver function are skin problems, frontal headaches, digestive disturbances & a general feeling of fatigue or sluggishness.

If I could choose only 1 herb to help with my overall health I would have to pick Garlic. Sure, the smell on your breath is strong to those you meet who haven't had their fair share for the day, but the large amount of health problems it helps with make it an ideal choice. Garlic has been shown to be effective in helping fight against bacteria, viruses, fungus and parasites. I believe it is an excellent winter preventative, which can be taken in many different forms. Try making a Garlic Tonic, where you peel & mince 2 garlic cloves. Cover with 2 cups of water and boil for 3 minutes. Take as a daily tonic. Make garlic butter, add minced garlic to tomato juice or dressings or simply chew and swallow. One study, with regard to recovery and on prevention against loss of stamina and the early onset of fatigue, found that Garlic far outdid the recovery and preventative effects of Glucose, Ginseng and 6 other food and drug items commonly used to restore energy, produce alertness, give vigour or provide stamina.

How to Lose Weight With a Healthy Lifestyle

Healthy Foods For a Healthy Lifestyle

There are many diets available that help people to lose weight provided they follow the diet exactly as it was designed. However, this does not mean each food item that goes into a diet has to be healthy. Rather, people have to change their eating patterns to fit into the rules of the diet.

However, there is an easy way out where you do not have to worry about a diet. Instead, if you know what foods are healthy, you can incorporate them daily into your meals and reap the benefits without having to follow a fad diet.

Processed foods may be easy to prepare and eat but they are not at all healthy. Instead eat foods that are fresh and if possible organic. Fresh fruits and vegetables are excellent source of minerals and vitamins. Eat fruits like berries to satisfy sugar craving. Eating steamed vegetables ensure that the nutritional value of the vegetables is retained. If you are a pasta lover, ensure that the pasta you eat is made from whole grain. The same goes for baked food items. As far as possible avoid junk food, pastries and other sugary food items. Yes, an apple a day keeps the doctor away but an apple pie does not!

When it comes to eating meats, stay away from luncheon meats, bacon and sausages. They are replete with saturated fats and nitrates, which are harmful for your body. Choose lean meat and fish instead. Ocean fish is a good source of omega-3 and you can eat it three to four times a week. Avoid frying your meats. Try to bake them as much as possible.

Finally, avoid sodas and canned juices. Stick to drinking water, milk, or fresh fruit or vegetable juice. If drinking plain water is boring, you can add a slice of lime or lemon to enhance the flavor. Where kids are concerned, you can use carbonated water to make fresh fruit juice which will give them an illusion of drinking a soda. It will have all the fun of soda sans the harmful effects.

Diabetes Control For a Healthy Lifestyle

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition that arises when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot use the insulin produced effectively. Without insulin, or when it cannot be used effectively, the body does not get the energy it needs from your food. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas, which helps the cells in the body absorb glucose contained in food This condition though chronic can be controlled allowing you to live a healthy lifestyle.

There are two basic forms of Diabetes. Type 1 requiring insulin for survival and Type 2 which requires insulin for metabolic control. Persons with Type 1 diabetes do not produce enough insulin and require a daily insulin injection for survival .Type 1 is more common in children adolescents and accounts for 10-15% of all diabetes. People with Type 2 diabetes produce insulin but the body is unable to use it effectively. These individuals may require oral hypoglycemic drugs to regulate an abnormally low concentration of glucose in the blood and may eventually need insulin injections.

Another type of diabetes is gestational diabetes which exists and develops in 2-5% of all pregnancies, but usually disappears when the pregnancy is over. However women who have had gestational diabetes are at a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes at a later stage of their lives.

For all types of Diabetes, information on the condition, a controlled diet, physical exercise and looking after your medical needs are all key elements in the management of this condition. Hereunder list a four point plan to a healthy lifestyle.

1) A Balanced Diet- A balanced diet helps control your blood sugar levels and controls your weight. People with diabetes have the nutritional needs as anyone else. Consider adding a food supplement to your balance diet as it ensures that your body is nourished properly.

2) Physical Exercise-Exercise helps improves fitness, burns calories, reduces body fat and increases muscle tone. Exercise lowers blood sugar and, like insulin, it helps your body use it blood sugar efficiently.

3) Seek good medical advice and take control of your life - Insulin lowers blood sugar levels. Whether you require blood monitoring and multiple daily insulin injections or oral hypoglycemic drugs, get the right advice for your condition and help your body to help itself.

4) A Healthy Social life- A healthy social life, taking time out to relax with your friends and family is both vital in reducing our stress levels, thus reducing a possible factor to the development of diabetes

It is important to achieve the balance of the above plan. Too much or too little can mean that you are no longer in control of your condition. Achieving this balance is a lifetime commitment. Diabetes is a life long condition which requires careful control. Use the above information to lead an active healthy life.

Healthy Lifestyle and Mental Stress

One of the most prominent features of modern living is the difficulty of escaping the mental stresses of daily life. Technology continues to drive the pace of work and living to faster and faster speeds. The cost of living, the pressure of competition for material wealth, and the challenge of balancing family, professional, and community ties all contribute to increasing daily pressures. Finding time to relax, unwind, and savor simple pleasures becomes a rare treat.

In addition to the specific stress-related disorders that this daily pressure causes, stress makes it all the more challenging to actively pursue healthy eating and activity habits. At the end of a long, hard day, it's much easier to grab a fast snack, sit on the couch, and do what you need to do to get through the rest of the day. It takes much more discipline and motivation to spend time meal-planning, shopping carefully, strategizing on how to be more active, and creating time to relax in refreshing and restorative ways.

So what do you do? Start educating yourself about what a healthy lifestyle requires and the rewards and benefits of the extra effort that it is going to take. Start acknowledging that, all things being equal, it is more difficult to live a life that nurtures and supports your health. Be patient and gentle with yourself, and congratulate yourself for taking any time and making any effort in the direction you want to go.

The Process of Change

As you get ready to embark on your own path toward healthful living, it is useful to familiarize yourself with the process of change. In the field of behavioral medicine, researchers are examining how to support the process of change toward more positive habits. As it became more and more evident that people have all the information that they need to know that they should be eating more fruits and vegetables and exercising more regularly, the question for scientists then became, "Why aren't more people doing it?" Researchers realized that changing behaviors is a very difficult task, and they sought to understand how to improve the process to maximize people's odds of success.

A leading behavioral scientist, James Prochaska, Ph.D., along with Carlo DiClemente, Ph.D., developed a psychological model for behavioral change that divides the course of action into five stages of readiness that are very useful for analysis. Understanding this progression can help you to be successful in achieving your goal to living a healthier lifestyle. The five stages include precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance.

These phases are meant to describe the process of becoming more ready for change and, therefore, of being more likely to succeed. In other words, you must become truly ready and motivated to change a behavior first, before you start to take action. And, if the process is cultivated in that order-motivation first, action second-the odds of ultimate success in achieving the lifestyle changes are much higher.

Precontemplation

Congratulations! Anyone who is reading this book has already progressed beyond the precontemplation stage. A person in the precontemplation stage is not making any behavioral changes and does not intend to make any changes. A person at this stage is not motivated and does not have the tools and information necessary to make a positive change. This person feels that it is easier to stay in his or her situation and even risk poor health and a shorter life than it is to make any changes. You may have friends or loved ones who are at this level.

Contemplation

In the contemplation stage, a person knows that it is better to live a healthier lifestyle. Although the person is thinking about it, he or she has not yet taken any action toward making this change a reality. During this stage, a person is engaged in information-gathering and weighing the pros and cons of taking any action. This person has not yet made any commitment to change but is instead just thinking about it. This, however, is a very important stage.

If you feel that you are in the contemplation stage, then you are doing exactly the right thing by reading and learning more about the benefits of making positive modifications toward a healthier lifestyle.

Healthy Lifestyle in Hydration Moderation

Author: Chris Jensen

Actually the key to having a healthy lifestyle is to remember to have all things in moderation - including exercise. While too many sweets are definitely a bad thing, not having any is an extreme that few people want to experience. Artificial sweeteners can help you cut out some sugar, but don't rely on them to completely fix your sugar tooth.

Research has shown that people who consume too much artificial sweetener may actually gain weight because their bodies actually think they are getting calories they aren't and then crave those missing calories! A better idea is to eat naturally sweet things like fresh fruit or dark chocolate. Dark chocolate has antioxidants that are good for your body, and as long as you don't go overboard it's actually good for you!

Another tip to have a healthy lifestyle is to incorporate more vegetables into your dinner and lunch. Many people eat a lot of meat and bread, but if you replace either of those things with more vegetables, your body is getting more vitamins and less heavy carbs and calories. Also, one tip many people use to eat less and feel lighter is to eat an apple half an hour before every meal. This fills you up a bit so you won't eat such a big portion at dinner!

Exercise is the most important component to a healthy lifestyle. You don't have to go run six miles every morning to get the exercise that your body needs. Take stairs instead of elevators, park far away from the store, take the dog for an extra walk in the afternoon, play frisbee with the kids after school, dance with your spouse while dinner is in the oven, there are hundreds of fun ways to get more activity without having to spend countless hours on the treadmill.

You can even exercise while you watch tv! Just flex your leg muscles or curl a can of soup to work your biceps! Another part of a healthy lifestyle is to limit alcohol, tobacco and drug use.

While in moderation these things may not have a big impact on your life, everyone knows that too much of anything is a bad deal, especially when it comes to things that can ruin your organs and mental health.

Last, remember to relax! A healthy lifestyle involves lots of relaxing, family fun time, and laughter. Don't overwork yourself and remember to take time to do things you enjoy. You only get one life, so you might as well have fun and not waste it!

Healthy Lifestyle With Easy Healthy Recipes

Author: Navid Cook

Nowadays with our busy lifestyle, it is becoming more and more difficult to spend time on cooking in house. More people now prefer to go to a fast food restaurant, eat and leave under half an hour. Not many people pay attention to what they eat and whether or not they are taking all of their necessary daily vitamins and minerals. We don't pay attention if we have had enough fiber or calcium or even protein in our food. We may not know what kind of oil has been used to cook the food we are eating and in overall we may never ask ourselves if we are eating healthy.

Healthy eating doesn't mean that we change all of our normal eating habits and follow a restrict diet. If we just try to follow a couple of the following suggestions, we have come a long way and improved our eating habit a lot. First things first, try to cook at home more often. It may seems difficult initially but as soon as you start cooking at home, you will get used to it and enjoy it. By cooking at home, not only you will have control over the quality of the ingredients, but also you can cook healthier. Steamed organic vegetables at home, sprinkled over with a high quality olive oil, some salt and pepper is much more healthier and more delicious than deep fried vegetables in a low quality oil at a restaurant.

Try to have some easy and quick recipes for healthy meals handy. keep fresh and also some frozen ingredients at home and force yourself to use them. Keep a couple of main herbs and spices such as bay leave, rosemary, paprika, pepper and cinnamon at home and use them in your cooking experiences.

For your daily eating habit, pay more attention to the nutrition fact of each food product. Instead of junk foods, sweets and processed foods, eat vegetables, dried nuts and fruits. Avoid trans fats and limit your daily taking of saturated fats such as cream and butter. Trans fats increase the risk of coronary heart disease. Trans fats on the other hand raise the level of cholesterol in the blood and therefore increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. Use vegetable oils such as canola oil for frying or high-heat cooking and also olive oil in salads and low-heat cooking.

For your daily fiber, instead of white breads, start eating whole-wheat breads and also other sources of fiber such as fruits and vegetables. Fibers not only can aid digestion but also can lower the risk of diabetes and heart disease. And last but not least, eat more white meats and less red meats. Red meats contains bad cholesterol and excessive eating of them should be avoided. Also oily fish such as salmon or cod contain some of the necessary amino acids that our body cannot produce.

By following these suggestions hopefully you would embrace a healthier lifestyle and become more aware of the importance of the healthy eating.

How to Build a Healthy Lifestyle

Author: Jim Rosenau

Diet - lets face it with out this you probably will not be as successful loosing weight as you would like. You can exercise all you want but if you go to fast food drivethrus all the time or eat the morning donuts you probably wont have much success. Lets talk about the fat first. You can do the low carb diets that actually say you should eat fatty foods and cut out the carbs and this does help you loose weight fast. The problem with these types of diets are that once you go off the diet and start eating normal again the weight starts coming back two fold, been there done that. Then there are the only carb diets which actually are pretty good for your heart. You find that your body starts missing the protein that it used to get from meat and you start getting tired. The next diet you can try is being a vegetarian which is a very good diet and you will loose weight but you must replace your protein and make sure you get enough vitamins and don’t short your self any nutrients. You know the best way to diet really is to watch your calories and fat intake. If you eat smaller portions at more times through out the day would be the best for you allowing your body to burn each and every meal you eat rather then storing it for later or turning it to fat. It is hard to keep track of all this but once you start doing it you will find it gets easier and easier. Lets face it losing weight and keeping it off is a life changing job that you have to work at and you will see great results if you add our next subject we will talk about.

Exercise - This is the hardest to keep faithful to. It is the hardest to start and the hardest to do when you just don’t want to do it. When you first start exercising you will be sore in the days following but you need to work through it and pretty soon it will not hurt anymore. First start a walking program 1 to 2 miles a day or 20 to 30 minutes a day. Do what you can handle maybe it is more than that. Then get yourself some 1 to 5 pound dumbbells and start doing regular exercise routines which we won’t go in to detail now but you can look up any routine on the internet and pick one that you think will work for you. You can loose weight with out exercising but that doesn’t mean that you are living healthy. Exercising helps your muscles be loose and tone. Sweating helps get rid of the toxins in your body that could cause cancers. Exercising also helps your heart, the most important muscle in your body, exercising helps keep your blood vessels open and clear. As you get older, if you do not exercise in some way your body starts to deteriorate faster. You can’t stop the aging but you will feel better and will be able to do the things you like. To keep up with both dieting and exercising you have to take control of the one thing that will make you quit both if you don’t master this next topic.

Your will - If you can control this you will be successful. Your will is what tells you that you don’t feel like doing this today or this candy bar won’t hurt me today. Then before you know it your week is filled with not exercising and as many candy bars and fast food as you can eat. To take control of your will you have to find ways to keep you focused like posting positive notes around your house or work. There is many different ways to keep your will focused. Once you train your mind to get rid of all the negativity that stops you from exercising and dieting the easier you find it is to change to a healthier lifestyle. Try posting pictures of you when you started your program that you choose. Then start posting pictures of yourself after you have been on your program for a month or two. The whole idea here is to keep everything positive and get rid of all the negative. When you start seeing all the results it will be easy to do all three steps to a healthy lifestyle.

Who Wants to be More Healthy? Six Simple Steps to a Healthy Lifestyle

Author: Eliz Greene

Do you know how to keep yourself healthy? It can be confusing with headlines coming at you. They said Hormone Replacement Therapy is bad for your heart, now maybe it isn't. They say eat soy, but now they say not too much. Should you take an aspirin everyday? What new test is right for you? What about vitamin E or Fish Oil or the latest diet pill?

How do you know what to do to keep yourself healthy? Go back to the basics!

Pay Attention: If you don't pay attention to your health, don't worry – it will go away.

Prevent disease by seeing your doctor and controlling your risk factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar.

In addition, be brave and schedule the screening tests. A recent study by the National Cancer Institute and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found a steady decline in the number of women getting regular mammograms. Finding cancer early through screenings like mammogram and colonoscopy is essential to survival. In this case what you don't know CAN hurt you.

Be Active: A study reported in the American Journal of Epidemiology is just a recent example of something we all know: people who are active are more healthy than those who sit around.

An active lifestyle doesn't mean you have to spend your life in the gym. You simply need to move your body thirty to sixty minutes per day (more if you are trying to lose weight.)

Doing chores, walking the dog and using a pedometer are all great ways to be more active. Being active will help control your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and weight as well as reducing your stress level. All good things for your health.

Put Good Stuff In/Keep Bad Stuff Out: Fuel your body with food which has recently had the sun shining on it. Flip over the package and read the ingredients. If the list includes items with more than three syllables, put it back. Avoid trans-fat and anything listing partially hydrogenated oils.

Water is your body's best friend. Keep you blood flowing and your digestive track working with five large glasses per day. Avoid soda and other sweet drinks, even diet ones, which trick your body into craving more sweets.

Stay away from second-hand smoke. Whether you smoke or someone around you does, you are doubling or tripling your risk of heart disease and cancer.

Breathe: Everyone needs at least five minutes to themselves every day. Stress is one of the for disease, and perhaps the most difficult to control. Take a moment each day to sit quietly, breathe deeply and let go. Clear your mind of the demands of the day and focus on the good things in your life.

Be Honest With Yourself: We all know, deep down, if we need to lose weight, if we need to eat better and if we could do better for our own health. Yet, it is easy to ignore.

Get out the tape measure. Measure around the widest part of your waist. If it is more than 35 inches (40 for men) you need to do better. Weight carried around the middle (around your internal organs) doubles your risk of heart attack. In fact, for women aged 45 -54 large waist size can double the likelihood of stroke as shown in a recent study published in the Journal of Neurology. Fat carried around the middle, combined with other risk factors like high cholesterol, smoking or inactivity is a recipe for disease.

Take your health seriously and start with one change. You'll feel better and will want to make other changes on your way to a healthy lifestyle.

Give Yourself A Break: Celebrate what you do for your health, and don't beat yourself up when you slip up occasionally. Making good choices on a regular basis builds a healthy lifestyle, not perfection.

Healthy Lifestyle

Author: Jenny Regeling

Copyright (c) 2007 Jenny Regeling

Living a natural and healthy lifestyle begins with routine-habits. These habits help create a strong immune system therefore avoiding a lot of discomfort and disease. A lack of discomfort and disease makes a happier and more contented life. A natural, chemical free lifestyle is uncomplicated; works well in harmony with your body assuring you of a strong immune system, and therefore developing a life filled with much strength , energy and relaxation. Sound good? I know which I would prefer.

In our western society we are known for depending on prescribed chemical medicinal cures rather than turning our ways to the original natural earth related cures we were supposed to use in the first place. Chemical and synthetic drugs do in many cases cure the problem but the side effects that follow or involve them can be worse than the disease itself. I know I have experienced that very thing. I am now more inclined to suggest to prevent illness or disease by a strong and armored body, built up by the right diet and necessary food supplements.

By living the natural way things are simplified, clear and self explained. It makes sense. They build up the bodily functions and in most cases don't have or have little side effects. If these side effects occur they are normally mild and easily treated by changing to another natural option that better suits the situation.

For example, my granddaughter who is 5 years old, like all children can get excited around sleep time. Instead of choosing a medicine to calm her down her mother simply puts a few dabs of lavender on her tissue to inhale while putting her down to sleep. This is very effective and very natural, not causing any side effects or chemical complications.

If you have never encountered or tried to go natural you are probably asking ...

What is a Natural Lifestyle?

To put it simply, you are not only treating an ailment but at the same time introducing natural healthy nutrition which at the same time is building your immune system to fight whatever you have wrong with you. So you are safeguarding and curing at the same time. The safeguarding naturally is also helping to prevent any more oncoming illnesses which otherwise may have occurred.

I have and will always stress that your mind, body and soul control the functions of your wellbeing. Therefore not only should you have a strong body, but also a positive mind (attitude in life) and a positive Godly soul. If your attitude is positive through a trauma in life it is going to promote a quicker and stronger healing process than not.

When I experienced Breast Cancer 10 years ago I chose to-Beat It! - With a strong, positive attitude. I could have chosen to be miserable and continually feel sorry for myself. That I assure you would only have made the task a whole lot harder and unhappier.

To compliment all the above, a daily exercise is essential-walking is great; whatever you choose to do is a great benefit. You only need a minimum of 30 minutes a day, longer is up to you. Also the habit of relaxation is very helpful to settle or deal with any anxieties, as these can prevent your system from working as it should. Stress is not a bad thing. We all have it and some more than others About the Author:

My most passionate objective for my website is to encourage people to look at firstly preventing disease by building up your immune system in many different ways, and secondly to help make the journey of disease much more pleasant. Life is worth living and if we are encouraged to live to our utmost - WHY NOT? Please enjoy the knowledge of my experience & visit http://www.cancertohealthylifestyle.com to receive a FREE Ebook read.

How To Achieve A Balanced And Healthy Lifestyle In Retirement

Author: Cynthia Barnett

Now that you've retired, you have entered an entirely new phase of life, a life filled with new challenges, adventure and hopefully one that brings you complete and total satisfaction. However, if you're like most people, change isn't always easy and is sometimes stressful. This stress is completely normal but may be compounded if you don't learn how to balance all the demands on your time. With this in mind, we've developed an innovative questionnaire and article to teach you how to determine how stress affects your life and how balancing it will lead to a more healthy and balanced lifestyle. Sound interesting? Well, sit back, grab a pencil and let's access how stress is affecting your life.

Make sure that you answer these questions carefully and honestly:

1. I keep spending too much time on unappealing activities and less time doing things that I really want to do.

True

False

2.I often feel I don't have enough time for myself or for my priorities.

True

False

3.No matter what I do, I can't seem to get enough done and always feel stressed, tired, overcommitted, and/or exhausted.

True

False

4.Since retirement, I don't feel that I'm accomplishing my retirement goals.

True

False

5.I often feel guilty when I can't do the things that make me happy.

True

False

If all of your answers were "false" then you're on the right track. Congratulations, you're leading a balanced life and have a very low stress level. If you answered "true" to 1 or more questions then you can really benefit from these 5 steps which will help you more effectively balance your life:

1.Find your purpose. First and foremost, you must take some time for soul searching. During stillness, you must determine what it is that you truly value and what are your priorities. List them from 1-10. Be very specific about what is important to you and how you plan to strengthen those priorities. For instance, let's say that your first priority is to live a more purpose driven life. If so, what type of activities are you doing to help make your dreams a reality? Are you reading books or listening to purpose driven tapes? Are you attending seminars? The key here is to really hone in on what is most important.

2.Develop a workable plan. Second, now that you know what priorities are important to you, you must develop a workable plan to donate time to each one. To accomplish this, you should write them down and clarify how you can achieve each one. Decide now what steps you will take to fulfill your priorities.

3.Become committed. Third, you must become committed to your plan and realize that you can't do everything. By being committed to achieving your most important priorities first and getting them done, you'll enhance your self esteem tremendously and feel powerful.

4.Take care of yourself. Fourth, you must always factor in time to take care of yourself. By being focused on your health and developing a healthy lifestyle, you'll make sure that you have the stamina to effectively balance your priorities. Therefore, take time to access your current health situation and if necessary, make any needed changes or improvements.

5.Enjoy this time. Fifth, you must be willing to enjoy this precious time. Be grateful that you are gaining control over your retirement goals and take pleasure in being able to live a balanced life.

In conclusion, you can have a healthy and balanced life by finding your purpose, developing a workable plan, becoming committed, taking care of yourself and enjoying yourself.

Controlling Diabetes With Lifestyle Changes

Author: Liat Nachman

A diabetic is a person whose body is unable to produce adequate and healthy amounts of insulin in order to control blood-sugar levels. There are many different approaches designed to help diabetics controlling diabetes, ranging from changing eating habits to increasing physical activity.

Medication has also been shown to be an effective way of controlling diabetes. Medical treatments for diabetes include daily insulin injections, as well as taking insulin in the form of a pill. The best approach though, appears to be a combination of several factors.

Diabetes and being overweight almost go hand-in-hand. Most of the time, individuals who are overweight have an increased risk of becoming diabetic. For these individuals, most of their problems result from an inactive, sedentary lifestyle, which is consequently another contributing factor in the development of diabetes.

Thin and active individuals should be aware that they too are at risk for developing diabetes. In these cases, diabetes can develop as much from genetics as it can from an unhealthy lifestyle.

One major contributor to diabetes today is the fact that most of today's foods are high in fat, and readily available. Today's busy world make it difficult for individuals on-the-go to prepare their own healthy meals, and as a result, they have no other choice but to turn to fast food. Couple this with the fact that many people today fail to get a daily amount exercise and you literally have a recipe for disaster. Poor diet and poor exercise are major contributors to the development of diabetes. Avoiding exercise, eating lots of fatty foods and sugar within your diet, as well as being overweight, are some of the major contributing factors associated with diabetes.

The first step in fending off, or controlling diabetes is a change in physical lifestyle. All people, especially diabetics and those who are more at risk for developing diabetes, should consider daily exercise. This exercise does not have to be anything major. A thirty-minute a day walk, or even a short weightlifting session at the gym can both be good places to start.

Besides increasing the amount of daily activity, diabetics also need to consider changing the way they eat. Everyone knows that fast food tastes great, but for the diabetic, it might not be the best choice. Instead of typical food choices, consider something with a few less calories, and avoid foods that are described as creamy, sautéed, or fried. More than likely, these are the highest-calorie foods on the menu.

Diabetics should also avoid foods that contain high-fat and high-calorie condiments like mayonnaise, butter, and cheese, as well as certain high-carbohydrate sauces.

Diabetics should focus on eating foods that are low in saturated fats and cholesterol. Most restaurants have skinless chicken and fresh vegetables readily available on their menus.

Although there is no official or standard diabetic diet, there are some standard lifestyle choices that diabetics can make to ensure a healthy life. Most of the time, success comes down to a willingness to achieve change.

5 Signs You’re Leading an Unhealthy Lifestyle

Author: Adella Klein

Leading a healthy lifestyle is something that many people strive for.

Countless hours in the gym and an unsatisfyingly healthy diet are two great ways to achieve the type of lifestyle that will earn you praise from your doctor. But if being healthy is that easy, why are so many North Americans unhealthy?

The answer to that question is this: It's easy to know what it takes to lead a healthy life, the difficult part is following through on exactly what it is you need to do to get there.

If you're not sure whether you're maintaining a healthy lifestyle, we suggest finding out if any of the following statements apply to you:

1. Your cigarette intake outweighs your vitamin intake.
2. You're more likely to chug a beer than a glass of water.
3. You'd prefer watching a 6-hour marathon of Desperate Housewives to a half-hour workout at the gym.
4. When asked which you prefer more, a home-cooked meal or a McDonalds Big Mac, you respond with "the Big Mac, of course - with supersized fries."
5. You'd rather stay up until 4 o'clock in the morning (on a work night) playing Halo 3 than getting some well-needed rest for the next day.

If any (or all) of these statements apply to you, chances are you're leading an unhealthy lifestyle. Here are a few small changes you can make in your daily life to improve your health:
1. Quit Smoking.
2. Drink lots of water.
3. Exercise.
4. Eat Healthy.
5. Get lots of rest.

You don't have to change your whole world to accommodate your healthy lifestyle. A few small changes can make a huge difference. How about having one glass of wine a night instead of three? How about walking to the store to get some milk instead of always driving? These are small adjustments that will have a huge, long-term impact on your well-being.
So go on, indulge in that Big Mac meal with super-sized fries every now again - just plan to spend the rest of the week working it off!
