Dubai Lifestyle - The History of the City and Day to Day Life in Dubai

By Rhiannon Williamson Platinum Quality Author

Background Information to the United Arab Emirates and Dubai: -

Dubai is one of the seven states that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE); it is located in the Middle East. The UAE borders the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf and is situated between Oman and Saudi Arabia. The United Arab Emirates was formed in 1971 by the then ‘Trucial States’ after their independence from Britain.

The UAE is governed by a Supreme Council of Rulers, the council is made up of the seven emirs and they appoint the prime minister and the cabinet for the country. Despite being ultimately ruled by the Supreme Council, as with the other six states, Dubai maintains a large degree of autonomy from the UAE when it comes to general decision making for the city’s development.

Oil was first discovered in the United Arab Emirates in the 1950s, before that the country’s economy was built on fishing and pearling, since 1962, when Abu Dhabi became the first of the emirates to begin exporting the oil, the country's economy has been completely transformed.

Sheikh Zayed, who has been the president of the UAE since its inception, quickly understood the economic potential for the country from the oil industry. He has continued to ensure that each of the emirates benefits from the oil generated wealth, he has insisted on the reinvestment of oil revenues into the healthcare system, the education system and the general national infrastructure.

The development of the oil industry has led to a large influx of foreign workers to the UAE, in fact Dubai’s population is the fastest growing in the world and the foreign population makes up about three quarters of the entire UAE population! As a direct result of this fact the UAE is one of the most liberal countries in the Gulf, with other cultures and beliefs tolerated. Dubai has also been quick to understand the need for diversification. Oil in the region is only projected to last for about 30 years and so Dubai has successfully embarked upon a major diversification program aimed to at developing industries and commercial enterprises to take the place of oil as the predominate commodity of the state's economy.

The climate in Dubai is sub-tropical and arid or desert like. The city enjoys almost year round sunny blue skies. Rain is infrequent and if it does fall, it falls in the winter.

Temperatures range from lows of 10°C to extreme summer highs of 48°C. The average maximum daily temperature in January is 24°C and the average maximum daily temperature in July is 41°C when humidity is very high.

About the city of Dubai

Dubai is recognised as the commercial and tourism capital of the UAE and is globally regarded as one of the most sophisticated, futuristic and cosmopolitan cities in the world, in fact Dubai is something of a phenomenon! It is an Arab Muslim society with the fastest growing foreign population in the world, and it has successfully developed harmony through ethnic diversity. It is a city with unrivalled levels of economic energy and architectural ambition, a unique city of contrasts where the most modern and architecturally stunning skyscrapers stand alongside traditional beautiful Arabic structures.

The experiences and attractions available in Dubai are many and varied. From the miles of immaculate beautiful white sandy beaches to the richly exotic Arabian heritage, from the awe inspiring majesty of the desert to the lively international bars, restaurants and nightclubs – a visitor to Dubai is guaranteed an incredible, never to be forgotten experience.
In 2003 Dubai was voted safest holiday destination in the world by Conde Nast Traveller magazine, and in fact Dubai is recognised globally as one of the safest cities in the world. Living in Dubai you will find that it is virtually crime-free with the Dubai police ensuring personal safety and security. Anyone found guilty of committing a serious crime will be severely punished. Alcohol and drug related offences are considered serious.

The economy of the city of Dubai is a mainly service-driven economy, with every business amenity from banking to telecommunications offered. International trading and industrialisation are actively encouraged through the provision of favourable taxation advantages, offshore status, specialist free trade zones etc. Recent innovative projects in the city include the foundation of Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City, bringing 21st century technology to Dubai in the world's very first ‘Free Zone’ wholly dedicated to e-business.

Day to Day Life in Dubai

Accommodation

If you are considering moving to Dubai one of your first thoughts will no doubt be finding somewhere to live. This is not something you’ll find too tricky, there are many companies advertising rental accommodation in the classified sections of local newspapers and they offer everything from private villas to luxury apartments or even shared accommodation. Whatever your budgetary and lifestyle requirements are, the specialist relocation and housing companies will be sure to have something to assist you. If you prefer to find your accommodation privately and avoid any agency costs, many people use supermarkets notice boards to advertise or request accommodation.

In terms of which areas of the city offer the type of accommodation you are after, Jumeirah, Umm Sequiem and the Safa Park area are upmarket and offer villa-type accommodation. Satwa and Garhoud also offer villas but are slightly cheaper. Rashidiya, Mirdif and Al Quoz are mainly Arabic areas and they actually attract a lot of expats.

If you are after an apartment the most popular areas are around Bur Dubai, the Sheikh Zayed Road with cheaper flats are available in Deira, Satwa and Karama. Some of the more exclusive apartment developments offer shared gym and pool facilities together with garaged car parking and the like.

Education

If you are considering moving to Dubai with family and are interested in finding out about the education system and the availability and quality of schools, one of the best ways is to ask around! Because of the numbers of expats in Dubai there is actually a large number of primary and secondary schools from which you can to choose. Most schools are private fee paying schools and really the best way to get an idea of the reputation of a school is to ask friends, colleagues and other expats who live in Dubai. Many of the schools also have their own websites where you can learn about the curriculum they follow, after school programs etc.

When it comes to enrolling your child in the UAE there are a few restrictions you should be aware of. For example you are not allowed to change your child’s school during the academic year…unless approval is given by the Ministry of Education and the circumstances are ‘special’. This means that you have to make sure the school you choose for your child will definitely suit them. Another restriction you should be aware of is that is you move to Dubai on or after the 1st May each year you can’t enrol your child into the schooling system for that year. Instead you’ll have to enrol for the beginning of the new school year which is usually the beginning of September.

Health

Another consideration you may have if thinking about relocation to Dubai may be the state of the health care system available there. It is fair to say that Dubai has many very well equipped hospitals and surgeries. Dubai’s Department of Health and Medical Services runs Dubai, Rashid, Maktoum and Al Wasl hospitals, with Dubai Hospital one of the best medical centres in the entire Middle East. Al Wasl is a maternity and gynaecology hospital.

The Department of Health also run out patient clinics or surgeries and in addition there are a number of quality private hospitals in Dubai offering in and out patient facilities – e.g., The American and Welcare Hospitals. Overall both the private and publicly offered health care services in Dubai are first class.

Working

Working in Dubai you will enjoy a tax free salary and all shop goods can be bought at tax free prices, making it an incredibly attractive city to international workers and international companies. Job opportunities in Dubai and diverse and plentiful, particularly since the additions of the Media and Internet cities…Dubai is a city expanding its horizons at an unrivalled rate.

It is important to mention that some countries worldwide have tax laws enabling them to tax their nationals on their worldwide income. It is important to check your status with an international accountant before taking up employment in the city.

Lifestyle

Dubai has a thriving expat population who make the most of their tax free lifestyle in this amazing city of opportunity. The nightlife in the city is excellent, with cocktail bars, wine bars, themed bars and typical British or Irish pubs available, many of which offer food and entertainment as well.

High standard international cuisine is available in the city’s many restaurants and if you are looking for lively evening entertainment there are numerous night clubs around the city. Some of the clubs attract international DJs; there are also Middle Eastern, Indian and Asian nightclubs offering entertainment with singers and dancers. Dubai also welcomes international touring singing and entertainment acts which cater to all tastes and ages…from traditional theatre groups to ballet, from opera to international rock and pop bands - all are regular visitors to the United Arab Emirates.

You can be assured of an exciting pace of life in Dubai and a high standard of living.

Healthy Lifestyle in Hydration Moderation

Author: Chris Jensen

Actually the key to having a healthy lifestyle is to remember to have all things in moderation - including exercise. While too many sweets are definitely a bad thing, not having any is an extreme that few people want to experience. Artificial sweeteners can help you cut out some sugar, but don't rely on them to completely fix your sugar tooth.

Research has shown that people who consume too much artificial sweetener may actually gain weight because their bodies actually think they are getting calories they aren't and then crave those missing calories! A better idea is to eat naturally sweet things like fresh fruit or dark chocolate. Dark chocolate has antioxidants that are good for your body, and as long as you don't go overboard it's actually good for you!

Another tip to have a healthy lifestyle is to incorporate more vegetables into your dinner and lunch. Many people eat a lot of meat and bread, but if you replace either of those things with more vegetables, your body is getting more vitamins and less heavy carbs and calories. Also, one tip many people use to eat less and feel lighter is to eat an apple half an hour before every meal. This fills you up a bit so you won't eat such a big portion at dinner!

Exercise is the most important component to a healthy lifestyle. You don't have to go run six miles every morning to get the exercise that your body needs. Take stairs instead of elevators, park far away from the store, take the dog for an extra walk in the afternoon, play frisbee with the kids after school, dance with your spouse while dinner is in the oven, there are hundreds of fun ways to get more activity without having to spend countless hours on the treadmill.

You can even exercise while you watch tv! Just flex your leg muscles or curl a can of soup to work your biceps! Another part of a healthy lifestyle is to limit alcohol, tobacco and drug use.

While in moderation these things may not have a big impact on your life, everyone knows that too much of anything is a bad deal, especially when it comes to things that can ruin your organs and mental health.

Last, remember to relax! A healthy lifestyle involves lots of relaxing, family fun time, and laughter. Don't overwork yourself and remember to take time to do things you enjoy. You only get one life, so you might as well have fun and not waste it!

About Swingers and Swing Lifestyles

Author: David Kamau

There are many myths and misconceptions around swing lifestyles (or simply "swinging"). Just what is swinging about and who are the so so-called swingers?

Swinging can be defined as the act of sharing yourself and your spouse with another couple, or other couples, with the full knowledge of all involved. It is the participants of this lifestyle who are referred to as swingers.

There quite a few myths and misconception about swinging and swingers. One common misconception is that swinging is the definition of swinging as "wife swapping." This definition is inaccurate in that it does not explain to explain the full range of sexual activities that swinging encompasses. It also gives the impression of a male-favored activity, which too is inaccurate as swinging involves full participation of both partners.

Another common misconception is that swingers are older couples who are bordering on being perverted. The swing lifestyle is composed of people of all ages, including ordinary next-door types who exemplify marital happiness.

In fact, one of the requirements for people seeking to join a swinger's group or party is that the couple must be reasonably happy in their marriage. The reason for this is that swinging should not be used as an escape from or alternative to an unhappy relationship.

Most people find it inconceivable that one would allow his/her partner to have casual sex with another person, stranger or not. But to swingers, this is an acceptable form of social recreation.

Swing lifestyles and activities are as broad and varied as are swingers. They include:

1. Soft swinging: Also known as soft swap, this is doing everything with another person except sexual intercourse. Usually they will stop at the last minute and switch back to their original partner. At this point they might choose to have sex with their own partner in front of the other people. Most first-time swingers begin this way.

2. Open swinging: This is when the couples swap (know as full swap) and actually have sexual intercourse in the same room or on the same bed. This includes threesomes, orgies, exhibitionism, voyeurism and anything in between.

3. Closed swinging: Usually a full swap, but sexual intercourse takes place in separate rooms. This is for those who feel the need for more freedom or don't like interruptions. This type of swing is mainly practiced by the more experienced couples, as a higher degree of trust is essential.

Why do they do it? Why would anyone want to be a swinger? Well, the reasons are as varied as the couples themselves.

One reason is the need to explore sexual fantasies without having to "cheat" on one's partner. Maybe they just want variety in their sex lives, or good old fun. The couple may have married too young and never had a chance to "sow their wild oats." And so on.

Does this mean that the couples never feel any jealousy? This is the biggest hurdle to overcome, especially in the beginning. Not all couples go through with it. A number of those who stick with it say that jealousy actually makes them even more sexually charged up, as well as creates deeper interest in their mates.

Some swingers claim that it is the actual giving or "letting go" in order to make the partner happy that is the essence of this lifestyle.

Obviously, not all couples can be swingers (this writer is not one) and this article is not about asking you to become one. As with anything else, swing lifestyles do carry certain liabilities and risks, which are subject of another article.

A Review of the Lifestyles Income Opportunity

Author: Brian Garvin

What was the first thing you thought about when you saw the title with Lifestyles name in it? For us, we originally thought the name was derived to let everyone know it didn't matter what lifestyle you were living, it could always be better or you could make it better by using or selling their products. So of course, that was the very first thing we wanted to find out when we visited the company's website and found out it was a health and wellness company.

Starting as far back as 1989, Lifestyles has built itself into a worldwide company, spanning over 30 countries today. In searching for that product that would separate the company from other health and wellness companies around the world, we didn't really see anything that stood out with the "wow" factor when first browsing the website. So instead, we moved on to the opportunity and see what it had to offer.

To join, you can purchase a membership for $40 and receive a distributor kit, discounts, bonuses, company and up-line support, along with your membership selling abilities to span worldwide. Lifestyles offers a "Premier Pack" or "Instant Direct" plan which are both step ups from the forty dollar starter package. They offer more points for products and additional discounts off, but as far as a price for these programs, you will have to call the company, because we couldn't find it on the website.

As we look at the compensation plan, we can't really give you a definite answer as most of the information is vague from what we have found regarding the plan. This is not something new that Lifestyles has invented or anything, in fact it's quite common in many companies who are trying to get you to talk with them either over the phone, or by video email. Why? For the same reason you go to a timeshare presentation and they want you to buy now and have that sale for "today and today only."

Many people who search a company online like Lifestyles sometimes don't understand all aspects of the company and go looking for another company because of it. So instead, companies will leave just enough information to peak your interest so you will call and ask more questions. They do offer information on their compensation plan, but not specifics all the way down to the bone.

However, we'll leave you with some of it and you can give them a call if you want more information. You have the opportunity through Lifestyles company to earn retail and wholesale income. We found this interesting as people who refer other people even if they were only customers, they received discounted prices for each person they referred to the company. There wasn't an actual number, but it was intriguing enough that someone will want to find out more information.

The rest is through generation, fast track, and organizational bonuses built up from duplication which seems to be what the company revolves around according to their website. While probably one of the first companies to come into the internet health and wellness world, the company today seems to leave informational holes in hopes of explaining everything on the phone.

Look at some of the products like Vigor and Intra, which were two that we ended up looking at, and see if it's something you are interested in investing your money for a new business. Then again, you may just end up being a customer. If so, we were glad you came across this article.

How to Introduce Swinging Into Your Lifestyle

Author: Eddie Delgado

A swinger’s lifestyle is not a lifestyle for everyone. It is not your typical relationship or choice. A swinger lifestyle for a married couple is something that has to be a mutual desire on both parts. It is a lifestyle where trust issues, jealousy issues and insecurity issues may not come into play. Therefore, respect, unselfishness, support and communications must always be a key factor in your relationship at all times. There is no room for confusion, instability or doubt because it can ruin your relationship.

If you finally decide this is a lifestyle for you, then this lifestyle should be an enrichment of your marriage and partnership. Everything must be discussed and agreed upon before the actual encounter. The discussion should be based on each of your individual fantasies, needs and desires. Communication is a key factor always. Be open to any questions and answers that may be brought up and be prepared to answer then truthfully. One of these questions may be, why do you want to swing? Take your time in answering. It takes time to become totally comfortable with the whole idea. Always remember that pushing someone that you love into doing something that they are not comfortable with may cost you your marriage.

You should first, go to a swingers club. There is always less pressure in a social gathering where this lifestyle is totally acceptable. This is a much safer and less stressful way to “get your feet wet” with the lifestyle. Here you will see and talk to people who have your same ideals and fantasies. Your first visit may only be to watch couples engage in group sex. It may take several months of “just watching” before you actually participate in the swinging. In any case, this experience will be extremely important for the newbie couple.

Just remember that swinging is a way of life, not just a fad.

Choose a Lifestyle That Makes you Happy

Author: Dennis Harting

It is always interesting to watch how society attempts to make people conform. Social conditioning is one of the most powerful motivators we encounter. The fact that most of it occurs without our knowledge is what makes it so effective. People will fight to defend their beliefs without even being aware of where those ideas came from. Unfortunately, the majority of us are nothing more than “products of our environment”. We rarely become something that we consciously chose. Rather, those who we spent the most time with influenced us into believing what we do.

When it comes to relationships and sex, society is clear on what it's belief is. Heterosexual marriage is the accepted model. This is the best way to maintain order while ensuring the reproduction of the “village”. People who enter this state end up raising a family which carries the population forward. Also, married couples provide an overall stability to the community. They tend to settle down in an area while establishing some roots. The focus often shifts away from individual fulfillment to that of the family. It is a wonderful concept and appropriate in most situations.

However, there are a large number of people who are not designed for this lifestyle. Yet society fails to deliver the message that it is alright for one to find a lifestyle that is suitable to him or her. Many believe that if someone is not of this mold, then there must be something wrong. Yet, there are many different lifestyles for people to choose from. Of course, there is the choice of staying single. For a lot of people, this is the ideal way to live life. Some people are homosexual or bisexual. Their preference strays a bit from the norm. Then there are those who prefer the “swinging” lifestyle. Monogamy is not something that works for them. These are just a few of the choices people can make when deciding what they want in life.

Part of living a rich life is making the choices that make you happy. Too many people allow others to make the decisions for them and wonder why they are not fulfilled. You are the only one who has to live your life. It is imperative that you select those things that coincide with your true nature.

Attempting to live a lifestyle that is not true to us will result in failure. We have heard of the man who leaves his wife for another man. He comes “out of the closet”. Afterwards, people wonder why he would do such a thing. The answer is that he simply was trying to live a lifestyle that did not fit him. Certainly he may not have known his sexual preference when he got married. Nevertheless, the pressures of our culture deter the investigation into what fits this individual. He was trained from a young age that he should get married and raise a family. That is the conditioning of society.

Naturally, this is not to imply that there is anything wrong with marriage or family. The point is that basically they are not for everyone. However, the judgments of others is another powerful weapon. People who fail to obey the cultural norm are belittled. For example, what is the opinion of people who engage in group sex. The majority of society looks down upon those people. They call them all kinds of names. Individuals who claim to be “open-minded” judge the daylights out of these people. Since they do not fit into the proper model, weapons are brought out in an attempt to make them conform. Naturally, violence is outlawed in the era so other tactics are utilized. The biggest is to let people know they “do not fit in”. This carries considerable pressure. We all want to be a part of something. Our humanness dictates this. Man (in the species sense) is a social animal. We are designed to interact with other people.

When seeking personal happiness, it is important that we choose a sexual/romantic situation that accommodates us. We need to give ourselves the freedom to make the proper choice. If being married and living in a monogamous relationship works for you, follow that path. However, if something else is more to your nature, it is best to follow that. A word of caution: it is often difficult to be true to your decision. There will be a number of people who will attempt to influence you. This will be done with the claim that they want you to be happy. Of course, they operate under the presumption that they know what is best for you. You are the only one who can make this decision.

Here's is a common example. I once worked with a guy who knew that he was cut out for the swinger lifestyle. Throughout his dating career, he was in numerous long-term, monogamous relationships. He told me that he was not happy in those situations even though the women were wonderful. They were ideal candidates for married life. Unfortunately for them, he was not. After some research, he realized that another lifestyle fit him better. He consciously chose to pursue it. Until he met that “special” someone. She was ideal in all manners except that she was not interested in swinging. As you can guess, issues arose. We talked on a number of different occasions about this. In the end, he had to let her go. Neither of them would enjoy happiness engaging in the other's lifestyle. Ultimately he did find someone who was pursuing the same interests as him. Today, they are very happy together.

In summary, be mindful of the choices you make with your life. Understand there was a lot of conditioning that influenced you. Society has a way of training us to behave in certain ways. Resist the temptation to go against your core. If another path sits better with you, follow it. Your happiness rests upon the decisions that you make. Even though those closest to you will have their opinions and judgments, they do not live your life. It is your responsibility to make live a rich and full life.
