Are You Addicted To Your Lifestyle?

Author: Brad Howard

With the percentage of overweight people increasing throughout the world, one has to think that their have to be more variables in play than just "fast food". The world is hustling and with the advent of computers and the internet, the hustling is more informational and mental than physical. So, if the majority of us are trying to lose weight in some form or another, the main question we need to ask ourselves is "Are we addicted to our lifestyles?"

Bad Habits or Lifestyle Addition

If you are reading this right now, there is a huge chance that you are overweight. After all, studies show that 64.5% of Americans fall into the overweight category. (F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies are Failing in America, 2005)

Here are a few questions you need to ask yourself:

• Have you been trying to lose weight but seem to keep falling into the same rut?

• Do you constantly tell yourself that you need to lose weight but just can't get around to it?

• Have you thought about losing weight, but keep telling yourself that it's not a big deal?

• Do you ever lie to yourself and think that people should love you for you and not because of how big you are?

The funny thing is that no one saying yes to only a few of these questions. It's either all or none. If you've said yes, congratulations: you're addicted to your lifestyle!

Lifestyle addiction explained

Have you ever seen a drug addict or are you familiar with a person with an alcohol problem? Have you seen their struggles?

These people have huge problems getting away from those drugs. They need support networks and strong councelling just to make it through the day.

Now, of course, these are very strong physical dependencies. A lifestyle addiction would be classified as a psychological dependency. If would compare to "needing" your husband or wife when they leave you.

You know that you shouldn't care and that you should just let go...but you can't...and you can't figure out why. Losing weight can, and often does, fall into this same category. Let's say that you've been on an exercise and diet plan for 3 days but you break your plan on the third day. A drug addict would call that a relapse, right? You can see where I am going with this.

The Justification of a Lifestyle Addition

Let's classify an addiction using these assumptions:

• An addiction is something that you don't see as a problem, yet you get angry when someone else says it is (Doc says, "Hey Bob, you need to drop 20 pounds.)

• An addiction is a "rut" that you can't get out of (I just don't have time)

• An addiction is something that harms you in the long run, but is satisfying in the short run (Oh, that chocolate cake looks so good)

• An addiction is a problem that you can't change because of "willpower". (I just can't seen to get motivated)

• An addiction is something that's "too tough" to change (Twenty pounds, I'll NEVER be able to lose that much)

Face it. If you need to lose weight, but just can't take the time to get around to it, you are addicted to your lifestyle. It's an ugly way to look at it. After all, who wants to be grouped in the same group as crack addicts, alcoholics, psycho boyfriends, and the such.

No one. But the premise is still the same. The ugly truth is still here no matter whose glasses you look at the world through.

Losing weight is a serious matter and it is about time you look at it that way. The shear fact that you might be having trouble doing it just reinforces this even more. Look, it's your life and your journey.

Don't lie to yourself anymore. If a doctor told you that you would die tomorrow if you didn't get in at least 30 minutes of exercise today, would you go about your day and ignore the doctor (because he/she OBVIOUSLY doesn't know what he/she is talking about) or would you immediately rearrange your day and find a way to get it done?

Think about all of the above definitions before you answer. I'd like to think you'd get off your butt and do something. After all...in this particular case...it's do or die.

So...what are you going to do?

Discover What to Do With Your Life.

Author: Doug Allan Dammeier

(Send this article to family and friends you care about and help them live better lives...)

I have found my 'purpose' in life and in this article I would like to briefly talk more about how you can find yours. So that's my question to you..."What Do You Want To Do With Your Life?"

Enoch Tan believes our purpose in life is determined by 5 points: 1.) It must be something that expresses who and what you are on the 'inside.' 2.) It must be something you truly enjoy doing. 3.) It must be something that gives you 'vision.' 4.) It must be something that you would gladly accept as your 'lifestyle.' 5.) It must be something that you truly believe in.

Your 'calling' in life is what ties your spiritual being together with your physical being. You become 'connected.'

It is also: ...something you have always been interested in. ...something you feel not only in your mind, but in your gut. ...something you find meaningful. It completes you.

A Calling is is a person's highest purpose. Everyone has a purpose in life and everyone has been given the passion and talent to fulfill it.

What people really want is to find work that they are passionate about. When fully engaged in your passions you have no sense of time. You're not watching the clock to see when you can stop because you never want to stop. Working at what you are passionate about is not work...it's your lifestyle your passions created.

When people work at what they love their productivity and creativeness explode. They find talents and abilities they never knew they possessed. They grow tremendously inside and outside. And they are so engrossed in their passion they become experts and contribute tremendous value to others and to the world.

Now I understand perfectly that not everyone can just up and quit their present job/work and follow their passions for the rest of their lives. That's not 'real world.'

But there is no reason you can't spend time to discover and become clear about what your passions are and begin to work toward living them on a full time basis. You can do this outside of your present 'work' on a part time basis.

If you're in high school or college and you're not sure if you are studying the subjects that will lead you to working at your passions work to identify what you want to do with the rest of your life. Look ahead 5 years, 10 years, even 20 years, and think of what would be the ideal lifestyle for you to be living. Picture yourself in your future working at what you love to do. Take subjects that may help you attain the goal of working at your passions in your future.

If you're not in some type of school, you're older, and just working at a job that doesn't excite you, or you may even hate, you are robbing yourself of the abundant and joyful life you were created and put on earth to live. Don't quit your job, but begin to study your passions part time and become an expert. Begin offering your expertise to others on a part time basis and income will begin to flow. Build and grow this passion over time until it replaces the work you don't like doing. It doesn't matter how long it takes because it will be worth it for the rest of your life. At this point you are no longer working, you are living the lifestyle of your dreams.

Sure it takes time. Anything we learn and pursue takes time and effort. But when it's something you absolutely love to do time has no bearing. Before you know it you will have attained your goals and will be setting new, larger goals that you never imagined would be possible for you.

A Calling/Passion may not be something you realize early in life. Most people have to 'grow into' their calling by making mistakes, through trial and error, and by eventually becoming fed up and realizing that "There has to more to life."

That's why I am here. My mission is make as many young people as I can aware of the fact they can earn a great living and at the same time live a lifesytle of total joy and happiness working at their passions. The same holds true for people of any age. I didn't realize and follow my true passions until I was over 50 years old. I wish someone would have taught me about this when I was in my teens or twenties. And this is what I want to do for others.

But no matter, because I am now following my passions and earning a living doing what I love to do. And anyone can do the same. As a matter of fact, it's what you were created to do!

Please understand that living an abundant and happy life is your birthright. It is what we all deserve. Did you know that it's a lot easier to succeed than to fail? Most people think just the opposite.

You have to work hard to fail. For failure you need stress, tension, anxiety, depression, worry, and fear. You employ a tremendous amount of energy in those things. When you worry about failure and keep it in your thoughts you naturally attract it to you. When you focus on the lack in your life you attract more lack.

All you have to do to change this is re-arrange your 'mindset.' When you recognize the thoughts or feelings attached to failure or fear entering your mind picture yourself grabbing them with both hands forcefully and throwing them out of your mind and out of your life. Toss them in the trash. They cannot stay in your mind if you CHOOSE to kick them out.

Immediately replace them with thoughts of your desires and feelings of success. 'Flip a switch' in your mind and focus on thoughts and feelings of being successful, happy, and abundant.

When you focus your energy and attention away from fear and failure to being abundant and successful you find ways to 'flow' more easily through life. You attract people, events, circumstances, and situations into your life to grow this success. One thing leads to another and your life begins to change to one of joy and happiness.

Personally, I'm a Christian and believe in God. Most people believe in something whether they call it the 'Higher Power,' the 'Universal Mind,' the 'Source,' or whatever. I don't preach religion. My point is, our innermost desires and passions are divinely inspired.

When I feel passionate and excited about something it's God's (use whatever you believe in) way of telling me this is a purpose I should follow up on. My passions are God's way of leading me. All positive thoughts, feelings, ideas and inspirations I get are a personal message from God. He communicates to me this way. He leads me this way.

By choosing to follow your heart and passions you are fulfilling the unique talent and purpose that has been placed in you. Following your Calling puts you on a path where God's blessings for you begin pouring into your life on a non-stop basis. As long as you are moving in the direction of your life's purpose the Universe will bless you with all the things you need to in order to fulfill all your dreams.

You will find many priceless and precious things appearing like magic along the path of a life following your passions. Work to identify and clarify your passions and then take the time to pursue them.

Vegetarian Lifestyles

Author: Vernon DeFlanders
Copyright (c) 2008 Vernon DeFlanders

A total vegetarian or vegan diet, contrary to popular belief, is interesting, flavorful and usually includes a much wider variety of foods than those consumed by the average omnivore. By adopting a vegetarian diet, not only do we avoid the risks presented by consuming animal products, we enjoy colorful fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and legumes provide an abundance of vitamins, minerals and antioxidant packages that go to work to help protect our cells against heart

disease and invading cancers.

Vegetarianism (for health) doesn't need to be a religion. It will be a meal by meal choice. Their staples like rice, oats, beans, and pasta are very inexpensive. Vegetarians do not need to eat special combinations of foods to meet protein needs. However, it is important to be aware of fat.

Meats and other non-vegetarian products add toxins in the body and make it a bit difficult to get rid off; thus leading to further health complications. A vegetarian diet on the

other hand, is easy on the body, is a healthier option, and helps the body to get rid off toxins easily. One of the most important health factors of a vegetarian diet is the lowered amount of cholesterol intake, you will lower your cholesterol levels greatly by a vegetarian diet, but a vegan diet will stop your intake 100 percent.

Vegetarian alternatives are now more accessible to everyone. Serve simple foods that can easily be duplicated by food service (rather than more expensive foods like fake meats). You may choose to serve several at one sitting, or go periodically, say once a month, with different selections. Serve with salad, we also like couscous with herbs and spices and roasted veg. It works well and as my daughter (at the moment) will eat chicken but not much in the way of red meat we are surviving. Serve the kabobs with a tossed green salad and something light for dessert, such as a fruit sorbet. Vegetarian diets that are poorly planned may range from a lack of protein, iron, and zinc, vitamin B12 to having a deficient amount of omega-3 fatty acids to vitamin A, B2, D and iodine. Without a proper diet, people who are vegans may be deficient in vitamin B12 and calcium. Vegetarian Times is packed with delicious, easy recipes that can aid proper weight control. Our pages contain everything from quick dinners for the family to elegant company meals.

For most vegans, veganism is more than just a diet it is also a lifestyle. Vegans or total vegetarians only eat plant foods, which include legumes or dried beans and peas, grains, seeds and nuts. Lactovegetarians eat plant food and include cheese and other dairy products. Vegans can get adequate calcium from plant products but it is a challenge! Studies suggest that vegetarians don't need as much calcium as non-vegetarians - but as much doesn't mean not any. If you are using tofu as a calcium source, be sure it is calcium set. Soy, itself, does not contain substantial calcium; it is a certain process of making the tofu that adds the calcium. Vegans are considered vegetarians but are usually known as total vegetarians since they do not eat meat of any kind, never wear clothing made from animals (wool for example), and never consume animal-based products like milk and eggs. That is the most extreme of the vegetarians.

Meat consumption is a risk factor for pancreatic cancer (number four in both men and women), whereas legumes and dried fruits appear to be protective. Ovarian cancer, number five in women, has been linked with dairy (including skim milk), egg, and meat consumption.

Meat analogs produced by high-moisture extrusion of soy proteins are good alternatives to animal meat and have many health benefits. In addition to textural properties, an abundant fibrous structure in such extrudates is a key factor for consumer acceptance. Meat analogs can be purchased to replace hamburger, steak, chicken, hot dogs, sausage, and many other meat products. Meat analogs are vegetable-protein based foods made to resemble and simulate various kinds of meat. These analogs have become a healthy alternative for the mainstream consumer interested in reducing the meat in their diets. Meat eating contributes to a mentality of violence through "karmic consequences.".Fear begets fear, fear begets violence, and violence begets violence. Meat-eaters inflict a heavy burden on vegetarians we pay dearly for the meat addictions of our fellow citizens today; and if things continue as they are, future generations of vegetarians will pay even more dearly. As of yet we vegetarians are not allowed tax breaks nor lower insurance premiums for our gentle lifestyle.

Animal wastes cause 10 times more water pollution than does the U.S. Meat producers are the number one industrial polluters in our nation, contributing to half the water pollution in the United States. Animal agribusiness requires vast resources, resulting in the devastation of the environment, and is a major contributor global warming (more, in fact, than all the world's cars, trucks and airplanes combined). And avoiding meat is better for our bodies: the American Dietetic Association reports that vegetarians have lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease, lower blood cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and lower rates of hypertension, type-2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer and that vegetarians are less likely to be obese than meat-eaters.

Eating nuts and whole grains, while eliminating dairy products and meat, will improve your cardiovascular health. A British study indicates that a vegan diet reduces the risk for heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Eating flourishing is digit of the easiest structure to secure both your feeling and fleshly eudaemonia rest at their constructive peek.

Vegetarians do not support the meat producing industry, an industry that accounts for more waste production than all other industries in the United States combined. As a vegetarian, you benefit from a more healthy lifestyle, as well as promoting a healthier planet. The SDA vegetarian diet recommends some legumes, nuts, and low-fat diary products in moderation. Examples of recommended dairy products would be milk, yogurt, light cheeses, with eggs used sparingly. Add a massive orange juice (they only come in "massive" these days) and you have a pretty healthy veggie meal for a couple

of bucks. The eggs are on the register but not the menu. Even though fatty meats may be limited on a vegetarian diet, a steady diet of fatty dairy products could cause the amount of artery-clogging saturated fat that is consumed to be off the Richter scale!

IMPORTANT NOTICE It is strongly advised that all persons seek advice and guidance from a competent medical doctor regarding and prior to embarking on a vegetarian dietary lifestyle change. This is particularly true for pregnant women or mothers who are breast feeding infant children, senior citizens, growing children, and/or any individual who is suffering from or being treated for any disease or health disorder.

Lifestyle Changes for Weight Loss

Author: Constantine George

Weight loss diets are very popular these days. Diet by itself is not enough to make you loose the extra weight and get you in the healthy weight range though. That is why overweight and obesity are on the rise. There are certain lifestyle changes that are necessary to implement in order to shed those extra pounds. Without making these changes no diet will work.

Lifestyle is a way of living based on identifiable patterns of behaviour based on an individual's choice. Hence like in many other situations, weight loss is all about the choices we make in life.

Leave aside the social aspects and aesthetics, the health risks associated with overweight and obesity are by far more important. Cardiovascular disease, diabetes type two with the plethora of all the health risks and even cancer are medical conditions more likely to develop when the weight is above the normal range.

There are few lifestyle changes that are essential in loosing weight. These changes, seem difficult to implement in the beginning but are easy to maintain and adopt as a new lifestyle once started on the path that leads to a better self. So here you are:

  • Lower your daily caloric intake (eat less). From Physics, any thermal system is in balance when the caloric input equals the energetic expenditure. Energy in, energy out, as simple as this. For humans, this translates in no weight gain or weight loss when the food you ingest equals the energy used for normal body functioning. This balance is estimated by the basal metabolic rate (BMR) and together with the level of physical activity determines the daily caloric needs. To loose weight, aim at 5 to10% less calories than required for normal functioning.

  • Compensate the lower caloric intake by better quality food. Organic food is the obvious choice. It is proven by laboratory tests that organic food has higher nutritional content than regular food. For example, an organic cabbage contains some 60% more Calcium than the regular, chemical boosted one. Meat is no different. Consider the better taste and the lack of chemicals, hormones and antibiotics and the choice is easy. Sure, organic food costs more, but eating less will insure your budget is not affected.

  • Increase the physical activity. This is the second part of the energetic equation. Resistance training like weight lifting, push-ups, squats and alike are by far more efficient than cardiovascular exercise. Resistance training raises your metabolism and keeps it there for hours after you stop the exercise. This is without the wear and tear and long hour sessions associated with cardiovascular exercise. Twenty minutes of resistance training daily go a long way.

  • Reduce the stress in your life. There is a mean connection between weight gain and stress. When stressed, we miss the body signals that we ate enough. Or maybe we eat more than we need like others are smoking to cope with this stress. Meditation is the mind work out for your mind. Like physical workout for your body, it helps your mind deal with the more difficult situations in life. It raises your threshold to stress if you wish. It also makes you more aware so you live your life other than on automatic pilot. Hence you will pay more attention to your body signals.

There are tools that make these changes easier to implement in your life. And remember, life is a journey and you have the choice to travel in style or not.

Nutritious Diet - Fitness - Body Building - Discover the Healthy Lifestyle

Author: James Stein

Creating that healthy lifestyle that you always wanted does not need to be a nightmare. Making some easy changes in the way you think and the way you look at your life, you can achieve a healthy lifestyle. The following are some great starting points to get you on your path to reach your goal.

* Condition Your Mindset Through Positive Thinking
One of the most important things you can do for yourself is to get in the right mindset. Your mindset is the way you think or perceive certain aspects of your life. To condition your mindset you must have your subconscious trained through positive thinking.

For instance, if you want to lose 20 pounds and you have had trouble with diet programs then it is time to condition your mindset. If you go to a quite place in your home, relax and close your eyes. Now visualize yourself 20 pounds lighter and tell yourself "I am slim and fit". Do this exercise several times a day. Throughout the day you want to reinforce your mindset by telling yourself constantly "I am slim and fit". Doing this will eventually condition your mindset to help you achieve your goal.

* Creating The Proper Diet
Without a proper diet, you can't expect to be fit or help build muscles. You must be particular on what goes in your body in order to support the healthy lifestyle you want. Protein varieties should be considered, such as red meat which is rich in protein although there are other alternatives like fish, cottage cheese, soy, nuts, beans and rice which are all rich in protein. Protein also helps promote muscle growth for body building.

Keep fitness in mind when planning your meals, well balanced meals should include fruits and vegetables. If you feel hungry in between meals then you should try some shredded carrots.

* Managing Proper Rest and Relaxation
Just as having a proper diet is important, it is also very important to give your body the proper rest it deserves. Allowing your body and mind to get at-least 8 hours of sleep a night, will help you replenish your energy levels so your body and mind can work at optimum levels for maximum efficiency.

* Balancing It All Together
It may take some adjusting and getting used to but you can affectively balance your mindset, dieting, exercising and relaxation. By following a properly planned schedule you can balance everything you need to have that healthy lifestyle that you dream of having.

Change Your Lifestyle?

Author: Terry Sandhu

The progressive and continual increase in obesity and weight related problems has resulted in over weight people being told constantly to change their lifestyles. More and more people are now starting to become aware of the fact that dieting at best is a short term solution towards weight loss. The success rates of most diets are ridiculously low. Certain products touted as weight loss aids are virtually useless and can at times be detrimental to your health.

Because people in the know are aware of the failures in conventional dieting and the inadequacies of many other weight loss products, they have come to the conclusion that something else is required to help people to lose weight and lead healthy lives. That something is the mantra 'change your lifestyle' being coined.

The fact is for people that are overweight and want to change that situation, they have to change the way that they live their lives. Constant dieting or taking dubious weight loss supplements is not going to help people to lead healthier lives. In many cases these types of methods do more harm to your body than good. The human body likes continuity, is doesn't like a irregularity in your life, and irregularity is what it gets when you are constantly trying to change what you are doing to it in regards to diet. This is why a plan of changing your lifestyle is so important.

Now it is easy to say to someone that they must change their lifestyle. It is easy to say that you must start eating in a healthier way. It is easy to say that you must begin exercising and become more active in your life. People that are overweight and don't want to be, are already aware that they must do these things. What they don't need is to have these words rammed down their throats on a regular basis. What they do need is methods for implementing these changes successfully into their lives.

Knowing what to do is easy. Actually doing it is something completely different. As I previously mentioned the human body thrives on continuity and it is not very keen on change. If you are overweight and you have lived a life of inactivity, and have had unhealthy eating habits for a long time, then this is the life your body has become accustomed to. When you try to change your behaviours, your body will not be happy about it. This is illustrated by the fact that so many people fail to lose weight. Trying to change your body so quickly with behaviours it is not used to will result in your body fighting these changes, which in turn will prevent you from losing weight with any long term success.

Now here is the thing, initially changing your lifestyle doesn't begin with you changing your behaviours, it starts in your mind, and you have to start changing the way that you think of yourself. At the present time you will think like a person that is overweight, a person who cannot be bothered with exercise or any increased activity, a person that doesn't have a healthy diet, and a person that finds change difficult.

While you think like that any new physical changes that you try to incorporate into your life will ultimately lead you to failure. Simple because you don't really believe in your mind that this new person you are trying to be is you. If you don't believe something then clearly you think it is not true. When you know something that's not true, how can you muster up the commitment, determination, and passion to follow it through?

You need to start believing that what you are about to attempt is going to be achievable. Stop thinking of weight loss as hit and miss. Begin thinking of weight loss as a skill to be learned. Any skill takes time and effort, and weight loss is no different. Learn about the relevance of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Learn about how food affects your body. Learn about exercise and fitness. Try to learn about these things prior to starting a weight loss program, because this will make you more prepared and give you a good foundation. Remember that any skill is often difficult to learn at the start but the more you do something the better you get out at it.

Try to get it into your mind that thousands of people lose weight successfully, so why should you be any different. People who lose weight successfully do so by been better prepared and having better knowledge. Write out a diet plan, write out an exercise plan, gain some knowledge, and you to will have a greater chance of success. If you really want to lose weight then you will do it. Stop jumping from one failure to another; instead come to understand that there are no quick fixes. Change things slowly, drop certain items from your diet one at a time, begin exercising slowly and build up from that. Finely believe that you are capable of doing whatever you set your mind to. The reason that you should believe this is because it happens to be true.

Lifestyle Lift Problems – are They Real?

Author: Anne Tide

Like with any other good thing, there are people who do not like the Lifestyle Lift or just try to find problems and negative thing about it. The question that arises then is how many of the so called Lifestyle Lift problems are real and how many are invented. Most of the problems people invoke already have solutions or at least have answers even if they are not what everybody wants to hear. The enumerated problems on different forums are the Lifestyle Lift cost, the scheduling, the after care and even the procedure itself. There are also problems because the locations where the procedure is available.

Most of these problems can be solved when one schedules a free consultation with the Lifestyle Lift experts. The problem now is that the procedure is so successful and affordable that a lot of people want to see if they can do it. Just imagine being wrinkle free in about an hour and walking out of the office with a younger face. The Lifestyle Lift cost is determined by the amount of work that needs to be done around your eyes and neck area. These areas require the most work. The price is around $4,000, but should not go over $5,000. Because the procedure is relatively short, it should not take more than an hour, and the anesthesia is local, there are no hospital costs, nurses to be paid or other services that occur when one is admitted to the hospital. Thus Lifestyle Lift cost should not be considered one of the Lifestyle Lift problems.

Another problem raised was the scheduling. Because of the affordable price, the success of the procedure and the quickly visible results, more and more people make an appointment for the free consultation. If one knows the procedure usually takes an hour, this is not valid for the free consultation. This is the phase of the process where one can ask questions about the actual Lifestyle Lift, about the procedure, the anesthesia, the estimated cost, the after care, the advantages and disadvantages of such a procedure if any, and so on. The cost of the procedure can be estimated because when the Lifestyle Lift expert explains the procedure he or she can do it on the face and neck of the person, thus assessing if he or she is a possible patient for such a procedure. Because of all the free consultations offered and the large amount of schedules procedure, new patients might have to wait several weeks to get the actual procedure done.

The procedure and the after care are also problems that can be solved during the free consultation. The goal of the Lifestyle Lift staff is to make sure you understand everything about the procedure, that they answer all your questions and that if the case, they schedule a date for you to get the procedure. You are encouraged to ask questions, before, during and after a procedure. As a patient you will also receive after care advice and medication for preventing infection and to reduce soreness. The usual recovery time after such a procedure is 4 to 7 days. This means that most of the people who had the procedure done were able to return to their daily activities in less than a week.

About the Author:

If you eliminated Lifestyle Lift cost from the list of Lifestyle Lift problems you see that you don’t really have other things to worry about and even if you have questions or concerns, the Lifestyle Lift Staff will provide all the necessary answers for you to make an informed decision. Knowing how and what happens before it actually happens is a good thing not only in the case of such a procedure, but in all the things in life.
